Five Man Banned is LIVE! on the indie webcomics platform Fables.
Tumblr media
...and we will be spending the rest of the story unpacking that sentence.
Once upon a time, Captain Finn O'Reilly was the greatest pirate known to the four seas. While raiding an East India Company ship, Finn and his inner circle (including our narrator Tristom Hamel, a transmasculine poet quietly in love with Finn) witness an angel fall from the heavens, headless and bleeding. The angel imbues each of them with its final gift - a shard of the Music of the Cosmos. The five of them become much more than ordinary sailors: immortals, magically charged heroes...and targets of a mysterious man called the Godkeeper, who knows far more about Finn O'Reilly than he should.
But angels are byproducts, a sign of celestial order. If they're falling...that means the universe is slowly but surely crumbling apart. Circa 1980, the situation gets significantly worse - but what can the crew of the Bonny Rachel do about it?
Maybe they should start a band?
(Please read the damn thing, it's a labor of love. I took two years out of my life to learn to draw passably well for this comic - I think I managed "passably!" - and I'd be really happy if you all came along to watch me improve. Let's all work hard at a craft we love, it makes life worth living!)
The first issue of the comic is up, and the second will come in a few days. From then on, the comic will update with complete issues on a monthly basis.

Sorry if I am too much of a geek with this question.
So If Mamoru neither chibiusa exist in the Croatian Au sailors, who would replace Danica as the next sailor moon?, when she ascends to queen serenity and therefore sailor cosmos?
She doesn't do any of that either lmao I was never a fan of Usagi becoming the mega dictator of the whole world in the future and forcing immortality onto all of humanity.
As for the next Sailor Moon, I'm thinking that she'll just reincarnate herself again. I'll write about this in more detail in the future, but I'm replacing the Princess Serenity and Silver Millenium storyline with a take on the story of Dubravka, the fairy protector of Dubrovnik. Danica is a reincarnation of Dubravka.

One of the most enduring mythical archetypes is that of the wandering hero: a hero to varying degrees, but always an traveler, always an adventurer, always traveling whether by choice or misfortune. To each culture one is assigned: in ancient times a wayward sailor, such as Odysseus or Sinbad. In modern times the traveler comes in many guises. In Britain, the traveler is the Doctor, the two-hearted alien bearing many faces and a screwdriver, and going about in a blue police box. In Canada, the traveler is the Littlest Hobo, a well-meaning canine who sniffs out danger, but never a home. The same fundamental myth, the same fundamental force of the cosmos, which too wears many faces, many hearts.
In America our incarnation of the immortal traveler is Sam and Dean Winchester and we just have to fucking live with that, I GUESS.

Serenity and her family are one of the many sent an invite to join Penacony for the Charmony Festival. With her parents already having their hands quite full with other matters, they send their daughter to extend diplomatic pleasantries instead. Though certainly not the first time she's visited the idyllic planet of Festivities, this trip proves to be her most challenging yet.
When Serenity arrives on Penacony, it isn't long before she senses malevolent forces at work behind the scenes. The Dreamscape now rings all too familiar warning bells of a similar evil she fought many years ago. With so many factions across the cosmos in one place, Penacony and its Charmony Festival seem like the perfect stage for a battle. Serenity is on her guard now more than ever. Despite the cordial nature of her own family's relationship with the renowned Family, unease settles in her bones. Can they really be trusted? Can anyone currently on Penacony be trusted? Or is she destined to uncover the mystery of the Dreamscape on her own?

While the bulk of this verse takes place during the Penacony arc, I am more than happy to explore before these events and after. This is mostly just a starting point as this arc really works well with Serenity's already-established lore in the Sailor Moon universe. If any of my moots want to explore points before or after Penacony, please let me know and we can plot and discuss!

Eclipse AU(Tldr at bottom of post_
So I made a modern-sort of percy jackson inspired AU for Linked Universe, I think it's fun to write! I hope other people enjoy it. Here's my weird rough summary. Willing to answer any and all questions!
The Chain are lost in time, trapped in an unending cycle of life and death. A familiar tale to the hero's spirit. In their last confrontation with the incarnations of demise, and the demons he commanded--the whole of reality went asunder, and the power of the gods shattered entirely.
After that confrontation--the nine embodiments of the hero’s spirit suffered the same fate as their homeland--their souls washed away in caskets of golden tears and failed promises.
Hyrule was wiped away, wiped from the face of history and beyond. The goddesses had to begin their creation anew, without the baggage of those that caused it’s destruction in the first place.
Earth, modern earth, was created in it’s place--with a few key changes.
For all their efforts--the remains of their first creation leaked through, infecting the history of our earth like vile rot. The monsters were the first to make the breach, their combined hatred and inhuman will to survive holding their corrupted essences together through the transition.
There are stories of these creatures, often disregarded as exaggerated hyperbole by historians, or metaphors for natural disasters.
They were not.
The Queen Gohma haunts the jungles of South America, legends of her urchin-like young making victims of unfortunate wanderers; sustaining her immortal lifespan in the depths of her hollowed tree.
Argorok terrorized the skies of medieval Europe, casting plumes of fire on the feudal armies that tried opposing it’s oppressive reign; her accompanying packs of gleeoks hunting ancient sailors in the atlantic.
And there were many, so many more monsters that endured the chaotic folding of time and space, the near-annihilation of any sense of self--as the mind and soul were put to battle against the last, drawn out gasps of their dying universe. The destruction was biblical, the return of gods seen only in legend--it’s a wonder that anything survived that cataclysm.
The chain suffered a similar fate--at first--their existence and histories torn apart atom by atom, their souls stretched paperthin as thought and reality blended together during the collapse of stars.
But they endured.
They tumbled through the new cosmos, the echoes of their shared spirit melding into the foundation of the universe--as immovable as gravity. When humanity came to prominence; the chain were there to follow. They were reborn, stripped of their memories, into a thousand different societies, and countless eras.
At times of crises and devastation; their nine courageous souls were reborn across the earth, their courage burning brighter than it had been before. They were prepared for the changing world, their skills old and new continuing with each reset.
There are some echoes of continuity, however, rules that their spirit must follow.
Twilight is related to time in some way, and they’re the two who meet again the most.
Wind is always born in sea-faring communities, whether that be in the literal age of pirates, or as an early tribesmen at the dawn of civilization--rediscovering his aptitude for sailing.
And as the chain have been reborn, so too have many of Hyrule’s legends, their essences bleeding forth onto our realm. The memory of that primeval history scars our world, and fragments of every era hides under the bustling, nation-states of our modern age.
Some more aware than others.
Those with the blood of Hylia returned, bringing the memory of their goddess with them--thought to be eradicated. They possess no royal heritage, living as normal citizens, the zeldas being born nearby their links.
The sheikah bounced back quickly, as Impa(SS) managed to come out of the transition with her memories intact--assembling her fractured tribe during the stone ages.
TLDR: Modern AU that’s sort of percy jackson in how Hyrule seeps over. Ancient things hidden in modern times, with the chain reborn worldwide.

I love how sailor moon is all about love and friendship against the darkness
How light and darkness always search each other followed by the endless cycle of death and rebirth
And then there's Sailor Cosmos being doomed by her own immortality
Like
the distant future she comes from, her friends and loved ones are long gone, and the only reminder is the color coded stripes of her outfit.
Even if the future changes, and there's no sailor chaos, the girls will have to fight forever

Do you prefer Chibi-Chibi being Galaxia`s starseed or her being Sailor Cosmos in disguise?
Mmh.. tbh neither?
I like the kid, she's cute, but my hcs don't really need her.
Galaxia is evil, not because of chaos or another evil entity taking over her. She's evil cause she's been cursed with the horrible gift of immortality and she handles it in the worst way possible. She chose to do horrible things and does not deserve a redemption, sorry.
But also I've stated before that I just see sailor moon as Cosmos. Sailor moon is sailor Cosmos, she just doesn't know it, Galaxia knows. Usagi will get the strength to fight her with the help of the allies she made along the way, not from an unknown mysterious force.
That said, if I'm forced to choose, then I'd rather her be Cosmos disguised, cause I need Galaxia to be evil on her own accord.

Why SailorMoon from Sailor Moon is stronger than Goku from Dragon Ball Z:
Goku may be able to go toe to toe with Beerus, but Sailor Moon is in a different class entirely. By managing to separate Chaos from the Galaxy Cauldron; the source of all planets, stars, and life in the universe, she proved her universe-level of power, and this is even before factoring in the massive boost from Lambda Power.
Usagi has rarely, if ever, shown exhaustion in the middle of a fight unlike Goku, showing she has much more stamina than him, even after a 1,000-year war against Chaos, of which she and Chaos are the only survivors of, and she has fought non-stop I might add.
Not to mention all the abilities Sailor Moon has, to which Goku has no defenses against. Such as Soul Reaping and control over time and space, not mention how ridiculous her regeneration is. Heck, to destroy Majin Buu, Goku needed energy from every single last person on Earth, to just destroy every atom of Buu’s body. Sailor Moon however, can literally regenerate from just the mere concept of life. So even if Goku did completely atomize her, she is just going to regenerate right away. She is the physical form of the universe, with the very concept of life creating her existence.
The problem is that upon becoming Sailor Cosmos, Usagi becomes a conceptual being, who was directly stated by her future self, to have immortality. That alone, gives her the fight. Sure there was Garlic Jr. who was immortal, but the problem with arguing that Goku can beat an immortal being because of that, you need to remember that Garlic Jr. was only defeated due to him being an idiot and using the only thing that could defeat him as an attack.
Now, let's debunk some of the refutes we are bound to get. First off, if you are thinking Goku could just use the Spirit Bomb to take down Usagi, well there are a few major flaws with that claim.
The first being the ridiculous charge time that the spirit bomb has. Much like with Superman, Goku would need to find a way to gather energy from among multi-verses to be able to match Usagi’s abilities. With Usagi being able to move at speeds of more than 800 billion times the speed of light before factoring in Cosmos, and being a universe-level reality warper with so many hax abilities Goku has no defense against, she can finish him off billions of times over, before he can even finish charging it.
Plus, while the spirit bomb can destroy a super-regenerative enemy like Majin Buu, one must remember, Buu's regeneration is the same as Cell's. It's via even a single molecule surviving, allowing that molecule to reform his whole body. While the Spirit Bomb is strong enough to destroy every last molecule of a foe's physical form, it really cannot destroy a conceptual being. Plus, her physical form is just an extension of herself. The concept of life IS her existence, should her body be destroyed, she can easily just create a new one. Plus, since he body is pretty much just a projection of herself. She can alter her body to be intangible or invulnerable at will.
Not to mention that even IF Goku could somehow manage to gather enough energy, and somehow make it able to completely erase her mind, body, soul, and concept of existence, there is a huge flaw in saying the Spirit Bomb can be used against Sailor Moon. Much like Goku, Usagi is pure of heart, meaning the Spirit Bomb can only tickle her at best While Goku and Beerus were destroying the universe in their fight, one must remember it is from the collision of their attacks. With the force of their mighty punches magnified by the other's is why this was happening.
Once again, even if Goku could destroy Usagi's physical body, he has no way of harming her soul, mind, and her concept of existence, meaning he has no way of putting her down for good, since, as a conceptual being, her body is nothing more than a physical projection of herself. But before anyone claims that Usagi is unable to actually take him down, and that it would be a stalemate at best, let's take a look back at Usagi's powers, and see if Goku can actually counter them.
Let's see, she has soul reaping, and the only time Goku fought an opponent that targets his soul was when he fought Spike the Dragon…I mean Spike the Spiketail…I mean Spike the Devilman …wow there are a lot of Spikes in fiction. And even then, his Devilmite Beam causes a person’s negative thoughts to be used as an energy to blow up their soul, and since Goku had none, he was able to get away from the attack without harm. However, Sailor Moon’s soul reaping is not limited by this pure heart fallacy, nor is it just limited to destroying souls, it is also capable of removing them from their bodies, and due to Ginyu being able to swap bodies with Goku, then it is most likely that Goku’s soul is capable of being removed from his body.
Plus, let’s remember how Mind hax work in both universes. In Dragonball, they have limits to them such as needing them to have evil in their heart such is the case as to why Babidi could control Vegeta and not Goku. While in the mind control in the Sailor Moon universe is much stronger. Galaxia’s mind control is not limited to that, as she was able to control Ami, Rei, Minako, Haruka, Michiru, Mako, Setsuna, Hotaru, and Mamoru. All of which were established to be pure of heart.
Not only that, but all 9 of them at once! And since Galaxia is a senshi, Usagi gets her powers upon becoming Sailor Cosmos, meaning she gets this mind control power. And before you say that ‘but she needs to put those special bracelets on him to control him’. The thing is those are to keep them alive since their Sailor Seeds were removed, as well as boost their powers. Plus, Usagi being able to kill her brainwashed friends, as much as it pained her to do so, showed that she is capable of using her powers against those who have pure hearts.
She also has control over the space-time. Meaning she can just freeze Goku in time, and unlike Sailor Pluto or even Guldo, it does not have any drawbacks such as having to hold her breath or sacrificing herself to use it. Usagi also has complete control over the Time Space Door, and can even use Sailor Pluto's Dark Dome Close spell. With Dark Dome Close, Usagi would be able to permanently seal off this world's connection to any dimension she wants. Meaning with Sailor Saturn's powers she can rip Goku's soul right out of his body, and use Pluto's powers to banish it to another dimension, then seal it away for all eternity.
Now, let’s take the argument as to why people THINK Goku is immune to time hax, and turn that around. You see in Xenoverse Goku was able to enter the Crack of Time, a place where time is non-existent, and moved around just fine. But as seen with the Black Moon Clan in the second arc of Sailor Moon, there is a difference between this. They were shown to be fully susceptible to Pluto’s Time Stop, yet able to move around in places that exist outside of time just fine. Because of Lambda Power giving her Ami's, Michiru's AND Setsuna's combined intellect, she can easily outsmart him.... .......with her reality warping she can just erase him from existence.... She can simply destroy him with a magic blast, and the list just goes on and on. But, just for argument’s sake, let’s say that Goku is immune to all these hax.
There is still a huge flaw there. Even if Goku’s WAS immune to reality warping and time manipulation, and such. The problem is that it does not prevent the rest of the universe. If you think he would be immune from Usagi just teleporting him into a black hole, there is nothing stopping her from teleporting a black hole to him. For example, Sailor Moon could just use her time abilities to speed up time around her to pretty much make herself move at whatever speed she damn well feels like. She can just use her reality warping to alter her strength to make herself stronger. Pretty much, because of Sailor Moon’s reality warping…there is literally nothing Goku can do. She can augment her durability to however she sees fit, she can alter her strength to whatever she wants, and the list goes on.
Now, one might try and argue that since he countered Hit’s Time Skip, that he is immune to time attacks. However, this is to the opposite. It clearly showed that Goku was susceptible to it, and Goku was able to counter it by predicting where Hit would be. Not only that, but Hit’s Time Skip can only stop time for up to 0.5 seconds at a time, while Sailor Moon’s powers over time are unbound by such a restriction. Even then it took Goku a 10x Kaioken and his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan just to be fast enough to react to the 0.5 second stop. Hell, with her complete control over time, she could turn Goku back into a zygote, or just age him into dust.
Another problem would be the people demanding that Xenoverse Goku be allowed. Well, if we were to do that, we would have to allow Usagi the game, Sailor Moon RPG: Another Story, which puts her on multiverse-level. So if anything, it would make things even WORSE for Goku. And even then if you are going to argue that Goku went to a place where time does not exist means he’s immune to time hax, that is bull shit. Not only was it Supreme Kai of Time that LET him enter, but…. here is an example from Danny Phantom about how ‘existing outside of time’ is different, then someone stopping time.
Danny was shown to NOT be immune to time hax without the need of a special medallion, since Clockwork was able to use it against him, it is likely the same for Goku. Much like with Clockwork’s home in Danny Phantom, the Crack of Time is just a place that exists outside of time, as in time does not exist there, not that he’s immune to time stopping powers. Yes, we know it’s a different series, and Danny is much weaker than Goku, but this is pretty much how the final battle in Xenoverse went, and Goku being susceptible to Hit’s Time Skip pretty much proves that. If you want to say Goku can move in places where there is no time, well, thing is....so can Sailor Moon, as she can move around the area inside the Time Space Door with ease. So it make's the argument for Goku invalid.
(But Sailor Moon is not even a match for Majin Buu! How does she beat Super Saiyan Blue Goku)?
First off, while Majin Buu is powerful, he is only a solar system level. However, Usagi IN THE SECOND ARC OF THE SERIES is a Solar System Buster, and her power continued to grow from there, such as tanking the destruction of the Taou Nebula in the third arc, showing she was at least Galaxy level, and universal at the end of the series, via her Galaxy Cauldron feat, and this was while she was in her Eternal form I might add! So this is without the massive boost each individual planet, star, and asteroid provides via Lambda. You want proof Sailor Moon could destroy Solar Systems in her base Sailor Moon form, and in just the second arc? Presenting Planet Nemesis! A planet large enough to engulf our entire solar system. When did Goku ever destroy anything like THAT?!!?! And as we pointed out, that is only the second arc of her story. Even BEFORE she obtained her Super Sailor Moon, Eternal Sailor Moon, and Sailor Cosmos forms.
And don’t underestimate her defenses either. In the end of the series, remember she dove right into the Galaxy Cauldron, which, as stated before is the source of all planets and stars in the universe. With the Galaxy Cauldron being such a thing, it is more than likely that it’s inside constantly emits power like that of the Big Bang, meaning at worst her durability is around Universal.
Even if you want to argue that her body was constantly atomized by it, then that supports her limitless regeneration. Meaning if Goku could somehow destroy her body, it would not matter. Her regeneration is just too strong. Plus remember, each senshi besides her are multi-galaxy, which put each of them individually on the same level as Goku and Vegeta.
With all of these billions of extra levels of power ranging from Solar System-levels for the weaker ones, and Multi-Galaxy for the stronger ones added to her, she is undoubtedly more than capable of soloing the entire DBZ universe. And if you are going to argue Buu’s vice shout, that is a portal out of another dimension. Plus, even if Goku COULD use that as well, there is still a problem. Usagi is able to destroy the connection between dimensions. No, not just destroy the exit door that connects them like Piccolo did, I mean make it the only dimension that person can go through, because even with the exit destroyed, the two were still connected, but with the connection severed, there is no way to escape.
There is also the detail that Sailor Moon is a conceptual abstract being. We have said this multiple times, Goku cannot destroy the very concept of life. Yes, he can take a person’s life away, but he cannot destroy the concept of it. And as long as that remains, Usagi will forever regenerate herself. Then there are also their strongest foes. For Goku it’s Beerus and for Sailor Moon Its Chaos. With Beerus, you have a God of Destruction, while with Chaos, you have the physical form of the concept of death and destruction itself.
Beerus and Goku’s fight took a while to start to tear the universe apart. However, with Sailor Moon and Chaos, there’s goes quite a bit further. With each attack from Chaos the universe is obliterated, and Usagi’s attacks, also constantly recreate it. The two going in a never ending cycle, never tiring, dying or aging, even after 1000 years of this non-stop. While it took Goku and Beerus a while to even get close to destroying the universe with their combined might, and were both tired after 30 or so minutes. Showing she and Chaos have more power, and that they both have MUCH more stamina.
But Whis is able to travel the entire span of the universe in just under half an hour. So clearly they are more powerful and faster. But there is a huge problem. By definition the universe is an INFINITE horizon, by traveling the span of the universe, Weis pretty much proved that the Dragonball universe has a set size, while Sailor Moon’s universe is in fact an infinite space. I ask you which is bigger a set size, or infinity?!?! On top of that, Usagi spanned the range from Earth to the center of the galaxy in only a matter of seconds. Since Usagi could span the length of about half a galaxy in only a second, meaning it likely only takes her about 2 seconds, or possibly less to span a whole galaxy. Meaning in the amount of time it took Weis to span the entire DBZ universe, Usagi could span hundreds of galaxys, which is more. And even if the universe was billions of galaxies....that presents yet ANOTHER problem for Goku.
Remember, as Cosmos, Usagi gains power from each individual planet, star, and asteroid in the universe. A single galaxy is filled with billions of each, that means MORE boosts to each of her stats, the larger the universe it. Yep. Basicly Akira Toriyama screwed over Goku by adding in these new galaxys, and 11 other universes. While Goku did get a huge boost in power once Battle of Gods came around, the boost to the size of the DBZ universe, lowered the chances of Goku beating Sailor Moon even lower than they were before. And since Usagi has space-time control, and how closely connected these 12 universes are, it is possible she could pull more power from the other 11 universes from the Dragonball-verse....meaning it is even LESS likely Goku could win. Heck, just add in Universe 6, the twin of Universe 7, the main DBZ universe, and Usagi has a FURTHER boost to her power.
On top of that, we don't know how the universes of the Dragonball-verse work. They are in pairs, and travel between them was seen as rather easy by those who are powerful enough. We don't know if Usagi would be able to pull from all 12 universe, but Universe 7 is more than enough to finish Goku. And even then.....we still left out a yet ANOTHER ace in the hole Sailor Moon has...... As seen when Usagi was rescuing her friends from the Black Moon Clan, it was shown that Neo Queen Serenity, Usagi's future self, was clearly able to loan the present Usagi her power. This means that Neo Queen Serenity could turn into Cosmos as well, and transfer that power to Usagi at any point in time, she so chose. In a sense she could strait up DOUBLE Cosmos' power by doing this! Not only that, but it is possible that this can be done hundreds of times over by her own future selves.
Goku and Usagi are both amazing characters, no matter who wins, it just does not change that! But here, it’s the same thing as putting a mortal man against a conceptual being. No matter what the mortal tries, he is fighting an unwinnable fight. Sailor Moon, in essence, is life and existence itself. She is the universe and all things that live in it. Hope, Love, Existence, Life, that is her very being. That is why she became Sailor Cosmos. She literally IS the living embodiment of the universe, and her ‘body’ is more of a physical projection of her own willpower, which she can just recreate at will once she obtains her most powerful form of Cosmos.
All it means is that there is a character more powerful, nothing more, nothing less. Goku maybe powerful, but he's nowhere close to Sailor Moon's power. He will ALWAYS have his limits, and much like Superman, Usagi’s power is limitless. She IS the universe given a living physical form, and unless Goku can destroy the very concept of life, he has nothing that can kill Usagi. In the end, this heartbreaking match is pretty much the perfect example of how the power of the Sailor Moon universe, eclipses that of the Dragonball universe.
Ooooo thx for telling me!!! Saving this for later

In the end, this heartbreaking match is pretty much the perfect example of how the power of the Sailor Moon universe, eclipses that of the Dragonball universe.
anon i have never watched EITHER of these shows. are you okay? did something happen? do you want to talk about it? preferably not via an essay in my askbox?

sailor moon lore is actually pretty crazy when you look at it from the perspective of an outsider who only knows it through those aesthetic anime accounts on twitter. yes, sailor moon has pretty backgrounds but how many of you know that all of the senshi died TWICE? that there was an episode where they were crucified? that chibiusa disappears from existence at one point? that in the manga, sailor saturn is a cyborg? that usagi is basically an immortal goddess and the ruler of the earth? that sailor uranus and sailor neptune tried to kill a child? that in the manga her future self, sailor cosmos, tried to destroy the birthplace of the universe?basically everything about sailor cosmos? a lot of people who only have a surface level understanding would never guess any of these were in sailor moon.

Five Man Banned is LIVE! on the indie webcomics platform Fables.
All right, once more with feeling. (This new comics hosting site - and I - are having some growing pains. The image resolution and link are now fixed.)
Tumblr media
Once upon a time, Captain Finn O'Reilly was well on his way to becoming the greatest pirate ever known. While raiding an East India Company ship, Finn and his inner circle (including our narrator Tristom Hamel, a transmasc poet quietly in love with Finn) witness an angel fall from the heavens, headless and bleeding. The angel imbues each of them with its final gift - a shard of the Music of the Cosmos. The five of them become much more than ordinary sailors: immortals, magically charged heroes…and targets of a mysterious man called the Godkeeper, who knows far more about Finn O'Reilly than he should.
But angels are byproducts, a sign of celestial order. If they're falling…that means the universe is slowly but surely crumbling apart. Circa 1980, the situation gets significantly worse - but what can the crew of the Bonny Rachel do about it?
Maybe they should start a band?

Welp, finished the Sailor Moon manga. Wow is the anime different! lol you know, I should have seen that coming considering all the differences I saw between Crystal and the 90s seasons but honestly, I'm just here for entertainment. And despite everything, I was entertained!! I suppose I'll give my thoughts on the overall series here at the end of this post. Be prepared for a long one friends lol.
As with the other seasons, I felt the manga had much cleaner plots and execution. All of the weird undertones I got from Pegasus/Helios were nonexistent in the manga. Yes, there was romantic undertones with him and Chibiusa, but it all tied into her overall theme that she just wants to grow up and be a Lady. And considering she is 903, I don't feel like it is that unreasonable a dream. Additionally, Helios was quite upfront that he was captured by the enemy and that he needed help from a "Young Maiden" to free him and help him in his search for the Golden Crystal. I wasn't all that clear if the young maiden was actually Usagi or Chibiusa, but either way, the goals and plot were very clear. Also! The Amazoness Quartet were the only secondary villains! They weren't as fun in the manga as in the anime, but I like that they end up being Chibiusa's sailor guardians in the future. Really brings it all togther.
Also! Speaking of changes from the manga and anime, Sailor Cosmos! I'd like to go on record and just say I WAS RIGHT. I KNEW CHIBI CHIBI HAD TO BE SOME SORT OF CHECKOV'S GUN THAT THE ANIME IMPROPERLY FIRED! CHIBI CHIB WAS SAILOR COSMOS. It all makes SO much more sense. I had to do a little extra reading on the wiki to fully understand what was going on, but in short, 'Sailor Moon' and 'Usagi Tsukino' are two separate individuals. Sailor Moon is reincarnated every however long, and Usagi is just the current incarnation of Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon is always fighting against Sailor Chaos, basically the embodiment of darkness as yanked from I believe Greek Mythology (might be a different line of religious thought, feel free to correct me). Sailor Cosmos is a future incarnation of Sailor Moon, who felt overwhelmed fighting her incarnation of Chaos. Usagi's incarnation of Sailor Moon had a giant influential showdown with Chaos that led to all the fallout Sailor Cosmos had to deal with, so Sailor Cosmos disguised herself as ChibiChibi to see if she could change the outcome of this influential showdown. In the end, she chose not to, and we don't really know what ends up happening to her in her time period. Which is fine, I don't care about Sailor Cosmos, I only care about Usagi and if SHE survives lol
Getting into the overall series thoughts, I LOVED that the manga ended with Usagi and Mamoru's wedding. A year ago I would have been really annoyed, but now? It so fits. What has Usagi's dream been this whole time? To marry Mamoru. She just wants to be with him, and he wants to be with her as well. And now they get to live out their thousand year lifespan together. Not sure how I feel about the whole monarchy and basic immortality that the whole concept of Crystal Tokyo brings about, but you know what? It's a fantasy series. Immortality is impossible, and I don't think a global monarchy led by magic wielding reincarnations of a prince and princess will ever happen in real life, so i'm not going to worry about it.
Switching gears, despite all my complaints, I think I still prefer the 90s anime. It's the damn score again. I'm not sure if I waxed poetic about Naruto on the live blog or if I left it in the drafts, but in short, Naruto was my gateway to the world of anime and fandom. Sakura as a character really spoke to me, and obviously the story was entertaining (the IP wouldn't be as big as it was if it wasn't). But what really stuck with me after finishing the series was the anime score. I LOVED the score of Naruto. I have the various OST tracks grouped together in youtube playlists based on the emotion I feel when listening and I STILL listen to some of them when I'm overwhelmed at work. Sailor Moon? The transformation and attack sequences are KICK ASS and there isn't a single one I actively dislike. Obviously i have my favorites, literally everything from Sailor Moon Super and Season 1 is a banger, and there are a few other pieces that are used as setting leitmotifs throughout the series that I also enjoy. The one used when Queen Beryl is berating subordinates is a favorite, as is the one played in Super when Haruka and Michiru are shown on screen in like a watercolor painting type still. There is a person on youtube that has the username "Endymon" and they have hour loops of SO MANY OST tracks, and you can bet I have them saved. I've been listing to the first season transformation hour loop while I work since October, and it's marvelous.
I also prefer the 90s anime for all the time we get to spend with the various characters. I may not have liked the choices made for all the characters (see, SuperS and Pluto in R) but the Spectre Sisters in Sailor Moon R? the Starlights in Stars? Honestly even the individual Sailor Senshi throughout the entire series?! The relationship between Hotaru and Chibiusa I think was the plot point/relationship that gained the most by having us spend more time with them. You really felt and understood the deep bond they had, and while I think they still sell it in the manga/Crystal, I think it's better executed in the 90s anime.
As I commented in one of my earlier posts, there are merits to each version of the story. I stand by my statement that the manga/crystal has a stronger and more coherent plot. But there are so many things that the anime does that makes the entire experience so enjoyable. I didn't feel the need to pay super close attention to detail in every episode. I was actually able to relax and recoup in the evening after work and I didn't have to worry about being super focused, I could half watch the episode and still know what is going on. And that is kinda what I needed this fall.
To wrap it all up, I love Sailor Moon. The story and the characters and the OST and everything in between is so fun and captivating. I see now why everyone loved this so much and why this was one of the anime to put the genre on the map for America audiences. Expect to see reblogs of random fanart from me, cause I don't think this will go anywhere anytime soon.

Can you tell us a little more about the Garden of Sorrow?
The garden of sorrow was actually created for a completely different magical girl project i had in mind back in 2018-2019, which would be two webcomics running concurrently titled Kirby Hermes and the Power of Hope & Anthea Patel and the Game of Life. It'd start as them being very distinct in tone and style, with KHatPoH being a precure, kid cosmic, sailor moon style kids power fantasy full of adventure, and APatGoL would be a bit more grim and for an older demographic. The twist would be that they werent just running at the same time but would be in the same universe, happening cocurrently, until the storylines converged. If you've retained anything ive mentioned to you about the labor of making comics you understand why this is an insane prospect and its better for me that its dropped.
In the story, there were two forces that gave magical girls their power: Mother Star and the Garden of Sorrow. Mother Star represented the hopes and dreams of everyone in the Cosmos, and was a slumbering dragon at the heart of the milky way, connecting to people who dared to imagine the kind of hero they wanted to be. (she had a son named the star prince, who isnt too relevant here but he was like if wheatley was made of banana pudding.) Her chosen warriors were the Starlight Knights. The other power at play was the Garden of Sorrow, which governed the magic of all life on earth-- the cycle of life and death, evolutionary paths, the will to live and reproduce and persevere. It thought bigger picture, often allowing harm to happen in order for life to flourish in the aftermath (think of how flash fires are necessary for the health of eucalyptus forests, or how volcanic ash makes better soil for things to grow.) The Garden of Sorrow's chosen agents in this were Earth Witches. You can see how a few of these ideas got recycled. (It was really difficult to conceive of a story where Anthea was the direct protagonist, because part of her shtick is being a bit hard to get to know, so experiencing her from the POV of other characters usually works to her benefit.)
in Carousel Waltz's first draft, the Garden of Sorrow is an alternate dimension/Power that Be that picked the Dancers on its behalf for the sake of helping protect life on earth as well. It also had six servants, the Sovereigns of Life which oversaw the six kingdoms of life-- Animalia, Plantae, Fungi, Protista, Archaea, and Bacteria, who were in danger of being killed by a rogue agent of the Garden of Life: Araceli Levin, a renegade Dancer, who was trying to use the powers of the Sovereigns of Life (and ultimately the Garden of Sorrow) to create a new universe.
In the current draft of Carousel Waltz the Garden of Sorrow surrounds the town of Potter's Fields, Washington. It's not really a physical location, but if you try to leave town, eventually you'll walk into it, and unless you turn around that's all there will be for as long as you walk: a half-wild, overgrown garden full of the remains of civilization. What's beyond the Garden of Sorrow is beyond the protagonists. For all the townspeople know, whatever's going on out THERE will make them WISH they were back in here. (The logistics of how the town self-sustains on matters of food and power need not be discussed. The Garden is a metaphor, in the end.) It's goal: to prevent Midas Schiller from escaping Potter's Fields and remaking the world.
Midas seeks immortality, but it's not enough to simply defy death; he wants to master it, to control it, and control every part of the world and make it his perfect image. If he could preserve it all in gold, he would. He wants to remake the world he remembers having once, and is willing to do anything to do so. The Garden of Sorrow has thus sort of quarantined him, and is sending magical girl monsters as antibodies against his virus. So far he's evaded death by employing the Garden of Sorrow's own magic against it, bestowing small amounts of magic upon willing actors: Dancers, who operate on the understanding that they are protecting their town and one of its only figureheads from being senselessly murdered by a magical forest that no one quite understands or can communicate with.
The Garden of Sorrow I think is like. I dunno how best to describe it. It's the fear of death. It's the fear of living after having wanted to die. It's the grim looming dread of the future after spending your entire life, your whole childhood, assuming you were going to die by the time you were 17, 18, 19 years old and now you're 24, you're 35, you're 47 and you're still alive and now you have to figure out what that means and it turns out that theres no one answer. The Garden of Sorrow is the fact that life will always find a way, and that the way may be ugly and weird and brutal and bloody but it is still a way. It's the fact that nature reclaims everything, we are a part of our ecosystem, the reminder that we are animals alongside other animals and plants and fungi and extremophile single-celled organisms. It's your immune system. It's me nearly drowning under a kayak when I was thirteen and someone coming by in time to pull me out of the water. it's a mountain goats song. it's watching utena when you're 16 and you dont think youre ready for it yet so you wait a couple years and try again when you know some more things about yourself and you want to die a little less. It's the promise that you don't have to die cisgender. It's being able to make peace with death from a young age to the point where it doesn't scare you anymore. It's the special kind of insanity you get when driven mad by grief. it's the garden of eden. it's your animal crossing town. it's the Unknown. it's ohtori academy. it's neverland. it's alternia. it's having a psychotic break or being in love or both and only briefly touching upon something you know is bigger than you and us and god and that you might never touch it again. it's a merry go round. it's an excuse for me to use all these plant and flower assets i have in clip studio paint.

koan. koan is the antithesis to sailor mars as are her sisters to mercury, jupiter, and venus respectively. she, along with her three sisters, are known as the spectre or ayakashi sisters and are affiliated with the black moon clan of the 30th century. a native of nemesis — the planet all dissenters of neo queen serenity's reign were sent to when crystal tokyo was formed — she aligns herself with the ideals of prince demande and his brother saphir ( who are, themselves, being manipulated by wiseman ) and is under the command of rubeus. she travels back in time to hunt down chibiusa and the silver crystal she had in her possession when she escaped. koan's elemental power is fire, which is why she's the antithesis to mars. in the manga and reboot, she and her sisters are destroyed once they are defeated. however, in the 90s anime, they are cleansed from wiseman's dark influence and remain as humans on earth. she and her sisters eventually open a cosmetics shop together.
COSMOS MOVIE SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT

chaos. a primordial being and the source of all evil in the galaxy, all major villains that sailor moon faces were incarnations of chaos and thus, to some extent, is responsible for the existence of other villains as well. as an immortal being, its goal is to become one with everything in the universe. in the final arc of the manga and the cosmos movies, chaos becomes one with the galaxy cauldron ( the source of all life in the universe ). eternal sailor moon ultimately dissolves chaos, but because all things are born from and eventually return to the cauldron at the end of their existence to be reborn, chaos will inevitably always exist in some form or fashion and prompt the need for sailor senshi to defend planets and galaxies. as long as the galaxy cauldron exists, chaos can never be permanently destroyed.

You didn't ask, but I'll show you: all copies of the Creator!
Copies are the same as alternative universe, but Tor cant have au, so there are copies. They are created from paints identical to those of Ink's (I didn’t exactly figure out where she got them from, maybe just created them because she can?) That is each copy corresponds to a certain paint. There are 8 copies in total, they can freely interact with everyone and everything by virtue of their abilities. Copies are code characters, so they are a game (unlike the Creator). There are also "independent" copies - those who have their own AU or beta-timeline and dont depend on the Creator (all the rest are under the constant control of Tor).
Each is named by a paint color, the name of their reference AU, or an ability. The copies are considered the Tor's family, which is why she is sometimes referred to as "mom" and the rest as "sister or brother".
And here is a listing of the copies from older to younger:
Red-red paint, existed even before I came up with copies, ref au Underfell, human, but physically strong as well as Tor, terribly shy for balance of power, trusts Swap and Cosmos.
Swap -blue paint, ref au UnderSwap; ability - tentacle tongues, she hides them under a mask, does not consider herself "God" and does not perceive herself as part of Tor (although she is not a human)
Max - yellow paint, the only copy-guy, is copied from a very real person, therefore he has no AU and is a human, very smart in chemistry, mathematics and history, an endless inventory. Operates Toxic (Dendro) in his experiments.
XC - purple paint, an independent copy, created from the XFrisk eye (the history of the Creator), a perfect copy as close as possible to the Creator, immediately knew about the Lower World, Tor, copies, who and what she should do. She was able to do everything the same as Tor, but only in Xtale in her bt. Tor had no control over her at all. After the Contagion Event and its failure, Tor rewrote it and stripped most of its features.
Ar- orange paint, from WarWorld, independent copy, immortal, British, constantly joked about because of her accent, British ambassador-traitor (history of the world), she is about 47 years old, loves tea.
Cosmos- or Cosmi, sky-blue paint, from the world of Sailor Moon, independent copy, all the abilities of the planets, creates a huge machete (?) from the star accessory, Tor considers her a killer and one of the strongest copies, very soft and sensitive, takes care of Red very much .
Toxic- or Dendro, green paint, not yet a modified copy, her appearance and abilities are not defined, except for one - huge roots that she can control. Human.
Pink - pink paint, the youngest copy, ref au: Candy/Sweet/Horror/Lust-tale, a symbol of Valentine's Day, sweets, joy and childhood, the body is identical to the Creator, instead of the ink is chocolate, her whole body is edible, capable of creating sweets, does not have feelings, because she gives them to others, she is friends with Killer! Aurora.
